Whenever an author is unavailable to join the club meeting, I always try to think of the best person to accompany the throughline of the title. If you look at Michael Puryear's accomplishments over the 40+ years of designing and making furniture, such as his work being shown in the Smithsonian Museum as well as many others, or being awarded The Furniture Society's 2023 Award of Distinction, Michael's contribution to the craft is remarkable in all its "simple elegance". Conversations with Smithsonian Craft Artists: Michael Puryear

If you don't know Michael or his work, I highly recommend reading this beautiful piece Nancy Hiller did for Lost Art Press back in 2020. A beautiful telling of Michael's story from start to present. Michael Puryear: An Integrated Life - Lost Art Press

If you did the right thing and immediately clicked on the link to Nancy's essay, you would know Michael was self-taught. I caught up with him a while back at his home, and he showed me some of his favorite books that he referenced while learning and still glances at now and then. A future blog diving deep into that is coming soon.

You will not want to miss this meeting! Michael is a great resource who is always willing to share his process. The meeting is TONIGHT! at 7:00 PM EST at the link below! Hope to see you there.
