"The Soul of a Tree" by George Nakashima.

"The Soul of a Tree" by George Nakashima is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. It's as close to working along-side Nakashima as you could get, absorbing stories as he tells them, learning technique on storing lumber, or proper use of joinery, and the feeling of being among his work. The sketches in this book are my favorite part, equal parts effortless and descriptive, his light airy artwork is something I aspire to emulate.

A piece of advice, READ THIS OUTSIDE! Its spring, things are blooming and to be among the materials Nakashima had such reverence for is the way to consume this book. Maybe sketch a tree of your own.

If you want to learn even more about George Nakashima, I highly recommend checking out this George Nakashima Woodworker Documentary, some great interviews and audio recordings that give added insight into the master craftsman.

As always, the meeting for this book will take place the first Sunday of the following month, in this case Sunday July 6th, at 8pm EST. Yes, the time has changed, with the days being longer and weather being nicer it might be nice to start later. Join the meeting at the link below and don't forget to carry on conversation on the text channels.

We have teamed up with the Fine Woodworking Discord's build challenge for the months of May and June. Check it out and post your builds at their discord link below.
