My favorite part of being a woodworker is how information is passed around. I'm not talking about the endless YouTube algorithm. I'm talking about the traditional form of learning. It involves reading a book, absorbing the information, testing and tweaking it, and then spreading it by teaching or writing another book, beginning the cycle of tradition and learning.
I want to reach out to the woodworking community and create a platform to expand this process by adding discussion and interpretation to the mostly solitary journey of reading a book. A book club isn't a novel idea, but when it comes to woodworking as a subject, it can make the experience much more dynamic. From discussing techniques to sharing personal shop stories, reading with friends makes the experience all the better.
OK, here is how it works: We will choose a book, and based on its length, we will determine the number of meetings per book. We will meet bi-weekly over Zoom to discuss and share. If you don't want to or can't make a meeting, there will also be a Discord chat and a bi-weekly recap blog post.
More information will follow as we work our way towards our first meeting.
Can't wait to see you all.
